The Commander Excursion boat was built in 1962 by Dubuque Boat and Boiler Works, Dubuque, Iowa.

It is all steel construction, sixty-two feet long with a 14 foot beam, weighs 35 tons, and is powered by two 1965 Cummins 220 Marine Diesels.

It has a Coast Guard approved capacity of 136.
